Child of Eden NOT going to be a PSN / XBLA title

Bad news if you were under the impression (like most of the Internet) that Q-Entertainment’s upcoming game was going to be a download title – it looks as if they have so much faith in it that they’re releasing it at retail only.

There’s been some confusion since the game was first hinted at, and through into this years’s E3 event, as to wether the game would be a PSN and XBLA release. Now in a tweet Q-Entertainment have confirmed:

Child of Eden is not a downloadable XBLA/PSN title, in case you were wondering.

Rightly or wrongly the clearly have a lot of faith that the title will be able to stand on its own two feet using traditional retail methods. Personally I think the landscape of gaming and games retail has changed alot since Rez and that they’re being a little misguided as to how fickle gamers have become, how much they’ll need to push it to get their product `out there`  in a very crowded market, and all against the backdrop of a worldwide recession which has even the biggest titles dropping in price like a stone.

Then again Japanese developers are notorious for not giving a crap about this sort of thing and sticking to their guns. While we won’t be following Child of Eden any more on Console Arcade now, I know I’m still eagerly awaiting its release in 2011 to see how it shapes up.
