Oddworld – the PSOne game which spawned a cult following and a number of sequels – is coming back courtesy of developers Just Add Water.
Already parts of the Internet are rejoicing, because JAW have announced that they’ve already been working on the game for 12 months and more details will be coming soon. It’s also conformed to be coming to multiple platforms.
So why am I speculating that it’s coming to PSN / XBLA? When you think about it, the platforms are the most obvious choice for a new Oddworld title, given its quirky style. The download platforms allow developers to take a few more risks in putting stuff out there – since the series has been away for some time, a full on commercial release might be a bit risky. Plus, despite the favourable reviews and following, it’s arguable that they didn’t sell too well at retail.
But most of all JAW have already worked on a download title with Gravity Crash for the PSN, so is it too far of a stretch to imagine that their next title will do the same?
Hopefully there’ll be confirmation of this (one way or another) very soon.
