They’ve been teasing Project Needlemouse for weeks and weeks now, but SEGA have finally lifted the lid on the newest Sonic The Hedgehog game.

After years of shonky 3D games the series is really going back to it’s roots – while still using 3D graphics, you’ll see from the teaser video above, that it’s more akin to the side scrolling titles of yesteryear. And the best bit is that, no matter which platform you own, you’ll still be able to enjoy Sonic The Hedgehog 4 as it’s coming to PSN, WiiWare and XBLA.

It’s interesting to see that the game is actually subtitled Episode 1, so game is coming in instalments. Full info on the title is expected shortly and we’ll update as it comes in, but there is talk of the game arriving as soon as this summer.

At the very least, its great to have Sonic going back to his classic roots. Be sure to check out IGN who have a short interview with SEGA’s brand manager, Ken Balough about the game.
