It’s been a long time coming but it’s been unofficially revealed by Nintendo’s CEO, Satoru Iwata, that WiiWare titles are to start getting demo versions to help people decide on picking up titles.
Apparently the system will be rolled out over a few select title and because this hasn’t been officially announced by Nintendo yet, instead being picked up from a Q&A session with investors, details on the whole thing are very scarce at the moment. However, this seems to be in line with Nintendo’s current plans to start pushing WiiWare and the Nintendo Store into the forefront of Wii users minds, alongside the Nintendo Ambassador scheme which was announced a few weeks ago.
As far as we’re concerned it’s the right move for Nintendo to be making. One of the good things about XBLA is that every game gets a trial version, and certain PSN games benefit from the extra effort developers put into demos. There’s been some quality titles on WiiWare but they tend to get lost amongst the dross which gets pumped out some weeks – this way it might help cut the wheat from the chaff and help people decide what’s actually worth spending those points on.

Well it’s waaaay too late for that. I’ve quit the Wii for a long time now after I got my 360. Back when I did love my wii, I would’ve loved to have these demos.
Maybe the new Zelda will bring me back? …but probably for only a week or two. The Wii’s longevity is going to plummet real fast, real soon. It’s unfortunate.
