There’s a lot of rumours flying around out there thanks to the repeated `reveals` by the German Ratings Board, USK. Certain websites seem to get off on trying to pass these off as being XBLA titles.
We’re not sure why – maybe it’s because they want the hits, or maybe it’s because people are all too willing to believe that any older title is automatically being ported over to the XBLA. That’s clearly not always the case – you might remember the rumours that Max Payne 1 & 2 were coming to XBLA a few weeks ago, only for them to turn up – more sensibly – as Xbox Original titles.
Perhaps it’s a show of faith in the platform, now it’s starting to mature, that people are so quick to believe that some pretty hefty titles being remade. After all StreetFighter HD and Portal showed that it can be done.
In any event, the latest rumour is that LucasArts classic point and click is coming to the XBLA as The Secret of Monkey Island – Special Edition. There’s no details other than that name and that it’s definitely a 360 title in some form. But that DOESN’T mean it’s coming to the XBLA and unsurprisingly Microsoft / LucasArts aren’t about to comment on any potential stories with E3 just around the corner.
Until there’s official confirmation that the game is coming to XBLA, keep your fingers crossed but don’t say we didn’t try to warn you if this turns out not to be true.
