NXE And Community Games Launches Today!

After lots of hyping and selected entry in to preview programs, today the New Xbox Experience is released for all. Once the update goes live at some point today, you can look forward to a redesigned interface, which should make finding all those Live Arcade titles much easier, as well as granting the ability to delete those zero Gamerpoints stains from your gaming history from any leftover Arcade trials.

There’ll also be the official launch of Community Games section, where you’ll be able to download games developed using XNA. It’s expected that there’ll be 30 titles available straight away, ranging from puzzlers, platformers and shooters, so there should be something for everyone. Just like the XBLA there’ll also be trails available for each game so that you can decide whether to stump up their 200-400 Points price tag.

However there are some limitations that you should brace yourself for:-

  • Community Games won’t show up in the new Quick Launch feature and will require you to be signed in to Xbox Live to play them (unlike XBLA games which can be played offline if tied to the Console ID).
  • The games can have Online play but that’s as far as their functionality will extend. That means no online leaderboards.
  • The games will not have Avatar support as to do this requires them to go through the official ratings process.
