Age Of Booty Dated

Posted by Console Arcade

Capcom have sent word that swashbuckling pirate RTS Age of Booty will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade and PSN on the 15th and 16th of October.

In Age of Booty, players team up with other online players or AI-controlled pirate ships to raid, pillage, sink, and destroy their way to dominance on the high seas. Manning the helm of their own pirate ship, apprentice pirates must raid villages, sink merchants, seize towns, and steal gold to stockpile their pirate factions with spoils of war and booty – all at the same time.

Age of Booty introduces swashbuckling action for the RTS (Real Time Strategy) newbie, ridding gamers of all the complicated, time consuming aspects of the RTS genre and retaining only the fun. Would-be pirate plunderers in Age of Booty won’t have to worry about resource gathering, base building or giving multiple orders to unit groups, unlike a typical RTS game. Age of Booty is built for the casual videogame player with action–packed gameplay, simple controls, and robust multiplayer capabilities.

PlayStation Network Cards Coming Your Way

Posted by Console Arcade

According to a post over on the Official PlayStation Blog, Sony are promising that they’ve finally got their act together on PlayStation Network cards. They’re promising a proper roll out in major US retailers next month.

Good news for US citizens who don’t own or want to use their credit card, but it’s even better for Non-US residents who are sick of having to wait for their store to get updated with the latest goodies. Now they can import one from their preferred retailer, input the code and spend away.

The rather obvious spanner in the works is Sony’s recent attempts at blocking customers from accessing paid content from other regions - first by IP address for the Video Store and then blocking card transactions via Entropay, which was found as a legitimate workaround.

Whether this means the locking of all PSN Stores is uncertain, but it really is a case of having to wait and see.

Peggle Coming To XBLA

Posted by Console Arcade

Developers PopCap are riding high following the release of the PC game Peggle: Nights. And they’ve taken the opportunity to announce that the Live Arcade port of the PC original will be coming in early 2009.

What’s Peggle you may ask? This is PopCap’s official blurb:

Clear the orange pegs from 55 fanciful levels as 10 whimsical teachers guide you toward Peggle greatness. Wield mystifying Magic Powers, rack up huge bonus points and make shots you’ll smile about for weeks. Amidst all this fevered action, only one question remains: Can you become a Peggle Master?

So obviously lots of room for Unicorns and skateboarding-chipmunks.

The Arcade version will feature the usual spit and polish expected of a Live Arcade title but also promises downloadable levels and four player online multiplayer.

Expect a lot more details closer to the games release but a price point of 800 Microsoft Points has already been announced.

Today On XBLA: Duke Nukem 3D

Posted by Console Arcade

Hail to the king baby!

This weeks update to the Live Arcade is the long awaited port of Duke Nukem 3D. Don’t know who Duke is?

Duke Nukem, the politically incorrect action hero and ultimate alien ass kicker, defends Earth and its babes from alien invasion in Duke Nukem 3D. This is the award winning game that helped define the FPS genre, introducing unparalleled interactivity, and a main character that spoke. Take the fight to the aliens across 39 levels featuring Hollywood, Los Angeles, a moon base, and alien spacecraft. Innovative items like the Jetpack, HoloDuke, Shrink Ray, or Pipe Bombs allow you to fight the aliens in any style you want. Defeat the aliens, so Duke can get back to some R&R with a stogie, a warm belly, and a bottle of Jack.

There’s also lots of new features for old hands to enjoy:

Eight-player cooperative and DukeMatch multiplayer: Play ranked matches in one-on-one or free-for-all for leaderboard spots. A playlist of levels keeps the game fresh, with levels rotating on and off the list. Play co-op with your friends, earning single player achievements or completing the game entirely. It’s your choice how to play. By reserving private slots you can play with your friends or with strangers in any combination. Invite away.

User clips: Every time you play a game, a user clip is recorded. View the clips any time in your theater or share with friends who own the game. Upload the clips to leaderboard spots if you complete a level in the fastest time, or if you have the highest score. Use these clips for tips on how to complete a level at speed.

Painless death: Review your play from the start of the level right up until your death, and jump back in at any point. Go back 10 seconds or 10 minutes, the choice is up to you. You can still save and load your game at any point if you prefer.

Gallery: Unlock achievements and Duke Nukem 3D concept art. Visit the Gallery at any time, view never before seen art, and learn more about the game.

Xbox 360 enhancements: The inimitable Duke Nukem returns in updated and improved form on Xbox 360. The game now features controller vibration, bilinear filtering, motion blur, Xbox Live Vision camera support for DukeMatch, multiplayer, and more.

If you like the sound of all that, then the game is available to download right now for just 800 Microsoft Points.
