Scheduled for the July 2nd according to Eurogamer and various other news sources, the new firmware update will bring things like in-game access to the XMB, so you won’t have to quit out of whatever your playing to read your messages.

The update will also introduce the PS3′s answer to the 360′s achievement system – Trophies. These will track your progress over games with a simple Bronze to Platinum award system, allowing others to see your accomplishments using your profile card.
It’s been announced that some of the PS Stores titles will support the Trophy system straight away including SuperStardust HD, PAIN, Warhawk and PixelJunk Monsters.
