Who knows why it’s taken so long but yesterdays update to the European PlayStation Store saw the release of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, a game which came out last year in the US and on Live Arcade.
Temporal distortions aside, the game can be purcahsed now for GBP 6.99 / EUR 8.99.
Yesterday SouthPeak games announced that June 4th would see Roogoo released on Live Arcade. Now Sierra have unveiled that their sci-fi shooter Aces of the Galaxy will also be up.
The game will have online and co-op play and will cost 800 MS Points.
Southpeak have confirmed that next Wednesday (4th June) will see their game Roogoo being launched on Microsoft’s Live Arcade.
The puzzler will cost 800 MS Points and challenges the player to drop different shapes through the appropriate holes in platforms in order to save lots of cute likkle alien Meemos.
- Contains 45 levels of action packed puzzle racing games.
- Single player, Multiplayer (up to four), and Leadership boards.
- Five differently shaped and coloured meteors.
- Collect stars to double your chance of winning or losing.
- Meemos and butterflies placed throughout levels as obstacles.
- Entertaining short story segments.
Confused already? Check out the trailer below for more of an idea on what to expect.
Yukes have announced that their new (and vaguely misleading) title for the Live Arcade. The game looks like a cross between Dodgeball and Tron and will feature:
- 8-player multiplayer matches via Xbox LIVE
- Four modes: Exhibition, Player Match, Ranked Match and Tournament
- GamerScore achievements and online leaderboards
- 4 ball types with multiple playing surfaces
- Multiple arenas with both Eastern and Western rules
No release date as yet, but the usual time period of “summer” is a safe bet.
The game might have been delayed slightly, but that hasn’t stopped the Bionic Commando: Rearmed soundtrack from being released already.
Available right now on itunes and all good digital downloads stores, it features 15 tracks and is absolutely essential for anyone who got hooked on the awesome music from the trailer.
Over on the official BC: Rearmed blog producer Ben Judd says:
I love the music. It’s one of the best parts of Bionic Commando, and that’s saying a lot. I particularly love the style that Simon adapted for Rearmed which seems to mix in the actual 8-bit chords with a more modern (relevant) back-beat. It’s unlike any other remix styles that I have heard because the 8-bit beeps are actually in the music itself.
It really hits a sweet spot for me as a long-time gamer because it really has just enough retro with just enough new beats to make it work.
And having had a quick listen, we’re inclined to agree with him totally.
Last week Microsoft dropped a bit of a bombshell when Mark Witten announced their plans to remove some Live Arcade titles from the Marketplace if they were under-performing. The uproar across gaming forums near and far forced them to clarify the finer details, stating that players would still be able to download any titles they’ve paid for from their download history and that all online functions such as leaderboards or multiplayer will still be available for these titles.
Further clarification has now come in the form of Microsoft’s Aaron Greenburg via Major Nelson’s podcast, explaining that people will still be able to download delisted titles if they are sent a message via the Live Dashboard using the `Tell a Friend` option. We guess it’s now more important than ever to have nice friends, particularly if they have a title that you want to play and didn’t get the chance before it disappeared.
There’s no denying that it’s an odd decision when clearly the infrastructure and server space will still be allocated for these titles. The more cynical might believe this is all but a total back-peddle by Microsoft on the issue and befuddled as to why they just don’t set up a bargain bin to put delisted titles in at a reduced price.
Regardless it’s clear that delisted titles won’t really be gone for good and so the situation is certainly shaping up to be a little bit than first announced.
In an interview over at Next-Gen.biz Mark Witten of Microsoft has revealled plans are afoot to start `delisting` Arcade titles that are seen as under performing. Witten goes on to explain further, that to be eligible for removal:
The game must have a Metacritic score of less that 65%
It must be more than 6 months old
It must have a conversion rate (in other words the percentage of demo downloaders who switch to the full thing) of less than 6%
Based on the Metacritic score there are presently around 45 Arcade games which could be facing removal, although Microsoft has never revealed information on conversion rates.
It’s been stated that at least three months warning will be given of the game getting pulled from the Live Arcade listings. At this stage it’s unclear whether people who’ve already downloaded it will be able to obtain it again.
The article also says that there will be no Spring Dashboard update as rumoured last week, but he confirms that an feature will be released via Xbox.com to resolve the 360’s problems with the DRM for Live Arcade games being tied to the system they were downloaded on.
Update:In a Q and A post over at Gamerscore Blog it appears that there’s clarification on what happens to items you’ve downloaded and have subsequently been delisted:
Q: If I bought a game, and deleted it, can I redownload it even if it’s been delisted?
A: Yes, you can. Go to Download History under the Account Management section of marketplace (far left blade).
Q: Can I still play a game after it’s been delisted? What about playing online? What about leaderboards?
A: Yes, yes, and yes. The game will function normally even after being delisted. You can continue to play the game single and multiplayer, as well as use the leaderboards as you normally would.
This weeks update to the US Playstation Store contains something a little bit different - a downloadable soundtrack of selected songs from Q-Games PixelJunk Monsters.
In what could be the first of many soundtrack releases via the PSN, over on the official PlayStation Blog Dylan Cuthbert of Q-Games introduces you to the collective composer for the game, Otograph and has a bit of a chat with its members about all the work they’ve put in. The soundtrack itself is availiable to download right now for just $2.99
There’s no announcement about the soundtrack coming to any of the other region stores just yet but there’s certainly no reason why it shouldn’t.
Let’s hope the idea takes off and that we can look forward to other sound tracks from your favourite releases.
Hot on the heels of yesterdays news that the XBLA release for the 28th May will be Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, the game which will allow purchasers entry into the Street Fighter 2 HD Beta, Capcom have released some new images.
While everyone’s favourite sulking bas-ass Akuma was first shown almost a 12 month ago, the three new screens show him in action against Ken and Ryu and some new backgrounds.
No sooner has Penny Arcade Adventures been thrown out the door, Microsoft are unable to hold in the info and have sent an email to UK gamers announcing that next weeks game on the Live Arcade will be Wolf of The Battlefield: Commando 3.
What will no doubt grab most peoples attention is that Capcom have already confirmed that buying Commando 3 will enter them in to the Street Fighter Turbo HD Beta.
Wolf of the Battlefield is also coming to the PS3 but there’s been no announcement yet as to whether it will be launched next Thursday for the PSN. Neither is there any news on a Street Fighter HD Beta for PlayStation users.
Update: Okay, so possibly not. A number of people spotted that there was some mistakes in the email sent out by Microsoft, the biggest one being that it made reference to allowing access to a Street Fighter 4 beta. No such beta exists and over on his blog the ridiculously named AceyBongos has confirmed that was obviously a mistake.
He also says that Wolf of the Battlefield:Commando 3 is NOT the Live Arcade game for 28th May, although there is no clarification of what is.
